William Dyson SIMPSON, (a.k.a. ‘Bill’, ‘Willie’, ‘Tiny’) was the second son of William Henry SIMPSON (1843-1902), a farmer and land agent, and Mary Elizabeth (‘Lizzie’) TOONE (1848-1912). He was born in Loversall, Yorkshire, England on 31 December 1872.  William’s brothers and sisters were:

George SIMPSON (1871-1949)
Thomas Henry SIMPSON (1875-1958)
Katharine Mary SIMPSON (1876-1948)
Janet SIMPSON ‘Granny Tate’ (1878-1971).
